sunday

Sunday I slept in J Then I coordinated everyone to do dishes because with our kitchen sink broken it was quite a task. We took the dishes outside in buckets and had to wash them like we do when we go camping. There were ants all over our kitchen… gross! That took up most of the morning- hopefully our sink is fixed soon. It rained and my laundry got all wet so I had to rewash it so it didn’t start to smell gross. Then we sat around and read books/homework until around 4:30 when we left to go see a soccer game. There is really nothing to do on Sundays because EVERYONE is in church! Most people can count on one hand the times that they have missed church in their life. So yeah anyways we hopped on trotros to Accra. We listened to the soccer game on the radio on the way to Accra but didn’t know it lol… the mate on the trotro got off while the trotro was still moving and did a dance when the winning team was announced (we still did not know what was going on). When we got off the trotro and walked to the stadium being passed by throngs of people going in the opposite direction as us we finally started to realize that the soccer game was just getting over. Apparently they play on Wednesdays at 6 and Sundays a 4… so yeah we will have to catch a game another time. We figured that while we were in town anyway we mine as well do something so we decided to go somewhere for dinner. In the travel book one of the people read about this hotel restaurant that sounded pretty good so we decided to go there. We ate outside and listened to music- it was beautiful. The food was amazing as well! I had twice baked potatoes with cheese OMG so tasty! I miss American food I’m really sick of rice lol! By the time we got back home it was pretty late and we all had full bellies so most of us settled in and went to bed because we had to get up early for our internships in the morning. Also I forgot to mention that everyone that we met on our little downtown adventure was really nice and really helpful. When we had lost looks on our faces people would ask us if we needed help finding somewhere and then they would drop what they were doing and take us to where we needed to go to make sure that we got there it so nice! For example when we were trying to get home we were at a trotro station and there were just like 50 trotros waiting for everyone to pack up the markets and leave town to go home for the night and we couldn’t find one to Okpongalow (our junction) so this guy helped us and led us right to where we needed to be it was so amazing that everyone is so helpful! And we get to practice our Twi and all of the locals try to help us learn the language its so fun! Its really refreshing that most people help one another and expect nothing in return. I love it, it makes me smile :)

  1. What kind of soccer game were you trying to go watch?? Was it a professional team??

That sound very nice about the people being very helpful!!

This will bring you a smile: Emily has her MP3 player on her earphones, and she is walking around the house singing the words as best that she knows, not having a clue that all we hear is her!

  2. Yuck.....Church :-P What kind of ants do you guys have there. Are they huge, and more importantly, do they bite? I was wondering how you would do over there being a vegetarian? That must be tough! Not that food in the U.S. is very vegetarian friendly, but it's definitely accessible. I love to hear that they are very helpful over there. People in the U.S. suck....they eat crappy food and it makes them grumpy....plus we're spoiled!! Hope you are having a wonderful time!!
